Pick the Right Fruit Seller

Lee loves buying fruits for his family and friends. He has almost never selected the fruits himself. He always leaves it to the fruit seller to help him pick. Sometimes, he would even ask the fruit seller to choose a few from each of the different types of fruits that are in season and he would just pay for whatever he has chosen. Every time, the fruits chosen for him were very fresh and tasty. His family and friends enjoyed them very much.

One day, a friend of Lee asked him out of curiosity, ‘How is it that you are so good at picking fruits? You seem to know every type of fruit extremely well. The fruits that you’ve brought for us all year round tasted so good and sweet.’ Lee told him his ‘secret’. ‘It’s not that I’m good at picking fruits. I’m good at picking the fruit seller! I find this fruit seller very honest and reliable. So every time when I want to buy some fruits, I’d just ask him to choose for me. I know that I can depend on him. It’s even much better than choosing them myself.’

The person who knows how to choose the fruit-seller need not choose the fruits himself. It is the same for choosing workers for a job and for choosing our friends. When we have selected the right worker and when we have found the right person as our friend, there are a lot of things we need not worry too much about.

However, it is quite a sophisticated knowledge on how to choose the right person, more difficult than choosing fruits. Every one needs to acquire the skill of knowing people. First of all, one must be broad-minded and willing to accept the various type of character we find in people. Discover the strength, weaknesses and potential of these people and see the value of these to them and to us.

On the other hand, there are people who think that they are masters of all trades or they have little trust for people around them. They feel the safest when they carry out things by themselves. This is not only tiresome but also shows an unhealthy inter-personal relationship.
