Dig it out

The son asked the father, ‘Dad, why don’t we dig out the irritating stone and move it away?’ Dad answered, ‘That stone had already been there since your grandfather’s time. It’s very big so should take some time to dig out. Leave it and just be careful when you walk past it.’ The son stopped mentioning about that stone from then on. He grew up and got married.
The son’s wife, too, often tripped over the stone. In the beginning, she tolerated with it and said nothing. Finally one day, she tripped, fell and got badly injured. Angrily, she said, ‘Dad, that big stone in the farm is such a big nuisance. Why don’t we find one day and get someone to move it away?’ Dad still gave the same answer, ‘Forget it! That big stone is really very heavy. If it can be moved, it would have done so many generations ago and won’t be still sitting there today.’
The son’s wife dared not say further, but still felt angry inside. Early next morning, she brought along a hoe and a bucket of water with her to where the stone lied. She had already made up her mind to dig the stone out and remove it, even if it would take her days of hard work. First, she poured water around the stone to soften the soil. Next, she used the hoe to loosen the soil. What unexpected was that the stone was actually not sitting very deep in the soil. A little effort was only needed to break the stone off the soil under it and dig it out. So the stone was actually not as big as it was thought to be. For generations, people had been deceived by the big outlook of the stone.
A well-drawn map cannot move people on the surface. Any secret to success is unable to bring people actual success or wealth. Only actions taken can make dreams and ambitions came true. People who failed are those who are ‘giants’ of language but ‘dwarfs’ of actions. They have many ideas but we don’t see them take actions. Or they might jump to conclusion that something will come to no result or say that it’s not time for actions yet. In short, they will find many excuses for their delay. Finding an excuse gives you relaxation for a while but remember, an excuse is still an excuse. It is said for one’s own ears to listen. Neither work nor life will give your excuse a chance! So start dig it out now!
